(Fully booked) BDO Webinar: Get Prepared for Waste Management in ESG

Date: 14 March 2022
Time: 15:00 - 16:00

  • Summary

Waste management has been recently discussed in Hong Kong due to the passage of the Waste Disposal (Charging for Municipal Solid Waste)(Amendment) Bill 2018 by the Legislative Council on 26 August 2021, which acts as a driving force that fuels the downstream recycling industry. In Mainland China, the government has promulgated new policies and amended existing waste-related regulations, such as a ban on the import of foreign waste (2017) to deal with the threats to the environment and public health brought by the waste crisis.

Waste management is an integral part of ESG. According to the BDO ESG reporting performance survey conducted in 2021, reducing waste is one of the most common targets set for environmental KPI, together with the adoption of the UN SDGs on climate change. Integrating the UN SDGs, setting up achievable targets, and performing risk assessment could have better performance and benefits on environmental and economic aspects in the business.

The current challenges, such as reinforcement of compliance, comprehensive and creative initiatives, have been developed as opportunities to tackle waste and economic issues, eg circular economy and green finance.

The webinar will cover:

  • Introduction to Waste Disposal (Charging for Municipal Solid Waste) (Amendment) Bill 2018
  • Comparison of latest waste management regulatory requirements between China and Hong Kong
  • Get prepared for waste management in ESG
  • Challenges and opportunities
